Sun between showers with cold font like conditions, made for gusty conditions on the water. Most of the training session was on the back paddock out of sight behind Musick Point, but quite a tussle heading home into the showers. A bit close on one encounter saw some evasive action and dropping off the foils. Quite a bit of speed in the turns downwind.

A selection of shots of Te Aihe, Te Rehutai and Taihoro to see if you can see the differences. A few Te Rehutai clips are flipped to get yachts going the same way.

Port Waikato after chasing the morning Aurora which never appeared. Lovely misty morning on a very cold West Coast making the water steam. Music is called Misty Waikato. Great Mothers Day trip.

Some comments at the end of training on Taihoro in New Zealand

What looks like the final day of Taihoro training in New Zealand took place in a fresh westerly off the East Coast Bays. An early dock out and into it, with some good runs in fresh conditions. I saw a mainsail change and a long tack towards the shore before heading home and lifting out for the last time. Best of luck in Barcelona to a great team on an awesome yacht.

In a galaxy far far away ….. out between The Coromandel Ranges and Tiri,Taihoro went searching for wind. With more wind out at Channel Island they found enough pressure well out from Waiheke Island. Some long runs before the wind abated. Far away from prying eyes.

Beautiful sailboat❤
This is no boat. This is a SHIP! Would love to see the interior.
Yes indeed, so would I.
what size and class are those larger boats? Thanks.
The first 2 boats are TP52’s, the rest are mostly a mixture of.
This video really made me appreciate these ships. Thanks
You are a master class at filming and editing Roger
Thanks for that -glad you’re enjoying the action 😊
Thanks for more excellent footage Roger.
You’re welcome 😊
Es sind schöne Momente in schlechten Zeiten .
The fog at the end was otherworldly, beautiful!
Un missile ❤
So these things struggle to even point into the wind in displacement mode, perhaps can't be unsupervised....though possible that they had an issue that they were working though at the time.
The apparent wind angles are simply mind blowing!
Wicked, thanx Roger!
Great videos, Roger
No ocean waves. This is glass smooth water and the racing environment is different
With this music, a beautiful ballet.
Impressive as fudge! they should hold weekend races on these boats for the public and get some skin in the game
What speeds are these doing and what are the big boats supposed to do 🤓🤓🤓
Amazing, looked like a skillful dance. Wow!
Nice, could watch these 2 go at it all day
I grew up on the North Shore and normally can pick where you are filming but I had to read the description as I couldn’t figure it out, thanks so much as now living in Canada I don’t get to see them live
Which is which? Are they identical boats?
The yellow top main is the AC40. You can see the LEQ12 by the foil- just.
It seemed to me that the LEQ12 was definitely faster on those new foils.....
Wow that 360 on the foils was mean as man!
blessed peaceful place
Starting practise duels
Those 180’s/360’s were so smooth as if it’s no big deal. Hauling nothing but speed…
I'm continually amazed that these things are so fast. Maybe we will start seeing luffing duels?
Kids v Clackers
Sensational! Congratulations!
Ripping - awesome ta!
That's the first video I've seen where they actually look like they are having fun, eg. they aren't fighting the boat anymore they are the boat.
Yes they certainly are throwing them around effortlessly - well it looks like that from outside :)
Mi sa che non ce n'è per nessuno 😢
Fantastic to see and to see their different current practice as the 75 gets shipped to Barcelona
Couple of whoopsies there, Roger. Nice work.
Cheers!
Awesome footage, cheers
Only sail powered event i watch really looking forward to it hope Prada gets to the final enjoy the battles between ETNZ and Jimmy Spithill.
There's a lot more jib, and Taihoro grinds the surface a lot closer than the previous ones. But the tack speed is insane. There's no turn, sail shift and re-acceleration anymore. It just turns and goes.
I think there was less wind for Taihoro in the shot used so the larger jib gets reduced for more wind.
Amazing how you on land with a decent lens can get as good - or better - pics than the recon crews on water. They struggle to keep up, and when they can, they can't get a steady image, and half the time the team tender is in the way. Although I guess they get a better view of all the boring stuff in between big runs.
As long as you are in the right place you can cover a lot- yes better than the recon for seeing boat attitude, sails and trim, but not so good on closeup details. Put both together and you see more. 😊
Always our very own King of the Air.
Is awes
Awesome dude 🤙🏻
What month was this?
It was August 2023 - cool in the mornings but warmed up nicely during the day.
Next time she touches the water will be in Barcelona salt water
I hope they remember to bless the foils too before it's shipped
Certainly easy on the eye, the other teams seem to have built bumps and lumps into their craft that seem incongruous to the aims of flight and aerodynamics, interesting
Just the one to win da 🏆
I remember seeing the first concept designs. I was thinking wow, is this thing going to fly? And she does! Just holding onto the water.
Yes indeed, and they never built any prototypes- amazing how far simulation has come.
The Emirates team New Zealand AC75 is looking good to go. She's a beautiful looking boat when she's sailing. Good luck guys bring the America's Cup home to Aotearoa, NZ 2024. Taihoro Nga mihi nui kia koe. Go with the winds of Tawhirimatea & speed through the seas of Tangaroa.
Very nice! Thank you. Regards from the bush in Titirangi . Is that for real? The music playing within their headsets?
haha no - just they were sailing so smoothly I thought smooth music may have been their inspiration. :)
so beautiful to watch ..Thankyou for sharing with this Kiwi from Orakei in OZ..makes me homesick 😊
Thanks for that :)
great footage and especially soundtrack. Those new foil arms when installed will make her even quicker, less rooster tail/drag. High mode or low mode the hull is always parallel to the surface.
Thanks for that- yes be keen to see the new foils.
They're sandbaging. This thing is alive when they sail full on. Kiwis have not shown their full power.
Great view angle, they are definitely sailing this boat differently, slight leeward heel as opposed to windward heel when sailing to windward. They must be on to something
